Cristian PARVULESCU, (b. January 9, 1965) is a Romanian political analyst, activist, journalist, and essayist. He is an assistant professor at the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA) in Bucharest, and became its Dean in December 2005. Pârvulescu is an active figure in the Romanian post-1989 Revolution non-governmental organization scene. He has been president of Pro Democratia since 1999, is a founding member of the Romanian Political Science Association, and counselor for the World Bank Comprehensive Development Frame Program. He has published a series of articles, studies and papers, and has taken part in a large number of seminars, debates, congresses, conferences, symposia and round tables.

Michael HECHTER, Foundation Professor of Global Studies, has taught at the Universities of Washington, Arizona and Oxford. He has been a fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences and the Russell Sage Foundation, and was a visiting professor at the Universities of Bergen and Llubljana. Hechter's research revolves around three distinct themes. The first concerns the causes of nationalism and group solidarity. This work attempts to account for the political salience of cultural distinctions, especially in advanced societies. A second theme advances rational choice explanations of macrosocial outcomes. A third concerns the role and measurement of individual values in social theory. He is presently working on a book on the causes and consequences of alien rule.
